La Renommée

Finely chiseled antique bronze statue of La Renommée or Fame, the statue showing her holding the trumpet on the right hand and a wreath of an olive branch on the left hand while she is winged and her dress is professionally chiseled like she is walking in the air.

On the lower rounded base "Renommée" name is engraved as well as the name of the artist who sculptured this statue J. Gaut Herug.

Goddess Renommée OR Fame is originally a Greek goddess allegorical personification of the character of the social or public recognition. It is also known under the name " Pheme " ( Greek Φήμη).

Fame is a winged deity, daughter of Gaia with many eyes and many mouths, allowing him to learn the secrets of fatal and disclose. These features were a god feared and respected. She is the messenger of Zeus or the subsidy of Hermes , the latter trait has been used by the Romans who spread and completed his character.

With the Romans, the god has lost his monstrous appearance to that of a winged woman often depicted with a horn. It is this form which has been covered by many artists from the Middle Ages.

She was equivalent to the Roman goddess Fama, however it is the beneficial aspect of Fama , the goddess of rumors with two tubes of different lengths.
